Art of Instruction

What do you get when you cross Natural Curiosities and Redoute? This newly released Art of Instruction book is nature's version of eye candy which features vintage 19th and 20th Century educational drawings that showcases beauty in "unlikely places from potato vines to jellyfish. From the anatomy of a tulip or an apple tree to that of a hedgehog or starfish, the botanical and zoological images are captivating with their curious visuals and intricate details." The black backgrounds were used so the school children in the back row could clearly see the images.

This collection features 100 plus charts collected by author, Katrien Van der Schueren who has collected these images for over a decade. She is also the owner of Voila! Gallery in Los Angeles.

Check out some of the images:
Heather: Calluna vulgaris

Potato: Solanum tuberosum

Meadow Saffron: Colchicum autumnale

Jellyfish: Aurelia aurita

  3. Those are gorgeous! I love the black backgrounds....that's my favorite look for these. They remind me a bit of what I bought recently for Linen Haus but a whole book would be heaven! :)
