Watercolor Wallpaper Murals

I know watercolor wallpaper murals have been around awhile, but just felt I wanted to revisit. I have loved the wallpaper murals in watercolor print because they are versatile for many reasons. So many of these wallpapers are easy to install, removeable which makes it great for temporary space like if you are renting or a way to add a bold pop of color and design with little commitment. Additionally, with these prints, you don't have to hang pictures or artwork so it can make decorating a space easy. If you are making a home office, or seperate bar or entertaining area, or want to add a little color behind built ins I think this is a perfect way to add it. You can go with more muted and subtle colors like the first few, or add a bolder pop of color.

Creepy Crawly Decor by Jennifer Angus

Yes continuing with the odd decor themes for the week of Halloween. Todays post is featuring an artist who uses insect bodies to make pretty intricate wall patterns.

Jennifer Angus is a design professor at the University of Wisconsin but she is also an international "insect" artist who creates installations composed of insects pinned directly to wallpaper and textiles.

You may think you know what you are looking at, just patterned wallpaper, but upon closer examination, one discovers that it is entirely made up of insects. Actual insect bodies are used, they remain unpainted but showcased in their natural form to create beautiful design illusions to bring out our inner insect loving child days. She uses these exhibits to showcase beautiful insects from around the world  in an artist's exhibition form, but to also teach about forest and rainforest preservation and to help individuals think about their own environment and behavior. Read here for more detail on her ethical use of the insects.

Marbling for Fall & Walls

These cute candy covered apples in white marbling design was my inspiration for today's post for all things marbled but with a fall twist showcasing these apples and various ways to marblelize your pumpkins for Fall.

Marbled Craft Paper
If you want a marbeling craft that can last all year, I came across this beautiful small areas that were marbleized using large marbled craft paper instead of wallpaper. The way the pieces are cut up in blocks from the paper not matching exactly gives the look a great agate type look.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

When I think of beautiful blooms on the wall, I conjure up the images of the exquisite rich hand painted  wallcoverings from de Gournay. Some of our favorite designers such as Miles Redd, Amanda Nisbet and Kelly Wearstler have all used de Gournay. My favorite floral design is their Earlham design, which was also used in the jewelry department at Bergdorf Goodman. Hope these beautiful blooming walls get you in the May spirit! Can you believe its May already?

Striped Walls

I checked out the blog of a new visitor of mine today, Vanessa at Design Dreams Japan and saw that she painted her walls with bold stripes.... a feat I admire! I first read about this DIY tutorial about 2 years ago at Young House Love. I went out and bought the frog tape, already had the paint, but still have not attempted the striped walls look. They look great and I think it would look great in one of my bathrooms in neutral colors. Have you tried striping your walls yet? What 2 colors would you or did you choose?
