Skulls

With Halloween around the corner, reminded me to pull out the images I have been saving of skulls in interiors, whether it's a skull lamp, vintage skull print or 1940's Hollywood Gothic chairs in skull print. Having skulls in your interiors year round is definitely not for the faint of heart unless you are a brain surgeon. Here are a few ways people have added a skull in their interiors without being too Gothic. Do you have anything with a skull?

Halloween Doggie Picture

We have a lot of Trick or Treaters in our neighborhood, so we like to dress our little Charley up since the kids just love it! Our dog actually likes wearing costumes or sweaters which is odd, but I think he likes the attention that he gets. So while normally Charley is a little shark for Halloween, my husband saw this costume online and had to get it. We definitely laughed to tears looking at our little Yoda! Check out the photos of our trial Halloween costume run.

Our little Yoda!

All these pictures are wearing me out.

Art of Instruction

What do you get when you cross Natural Curiosities and Redoute? This newly released Art of Instruction book is nature's version of eye candy which features vintage 19th and 20th Century educational drawings that showcases beauty in "unlikely places from potato vines to jellyfish. From the anatomy of a tulip or an apple tree to that of a hedgehog or starfish, the botanical and zoological images are captivating with their curious visuals and intricate details." The black backgrounds were used so the school children in the back row could clearly see the images.

This collection features 100 plus charts collected by author, Katrien Van der Schueren who has collected these images for over a decade. She is also the owner of Voila! Gallery in Los Angeles.

Check out some of the images:
Heather: Calluna vulgaris

3rd Wedding Anniversary

Today is my 3rd wedding anniversary! My, how time flies. My husband and I met in West Palm Beach, FL from a mutual boss from a former employer. Since we met near the beach, got engaged in the Bahamas, we thought it would be most suitable to get married by the coast. We chose Charleston, SC since I used to go there when I was younger with my family and in college with friends. Charleston is close my family in Greenville, SC and my husband's family in Atlanta, GA. Charleston's summers are brutally hot, muggy and buggy, so we thought an outdoor wedding in early October would be perfect...and it was! My colors were navy and white, and there was a small starfish theme (which some of these things are ironically fave's in interiors).

Our little moment to relax alone before the reception begins.

My new last name initial!

Our colors were navy and white so we had some dancing shoes so no excuses to not be on the dance floor!

My something old... my great grandmother's aquamarine brooch.

Pictures always look so good in black and white, don't they?

Kiss from the hubby!

So, now a few of my favorite navy & white and starfish interior accents I love!

This room is one of my favorites from Phoebe Howard at Max & Co, I have seen this in person and those lacquered walls are amazing!

Decorating with Hermes

After doing my post on Orange Accents, it reminded me of the infamous orange color of Hermes. As if wanting a Birkin is not enough, people are obsessed with the Avalon blankets, and the vintage trays which style maven Olivia Palermo had in her Tribeca apartment. So which would you prefer...Birkin bag, Avalon blanket or a vintage Hermes tray?
